Finally! A confirmed release date for the Ghosbusters game! Sony has recently let it slip that that much anticipated videogame is set to be released alongside the blu-ray of the original film, Ghostbusters II, in June. Much has been speculated about this game, and Atari has been doing a pretty good job of keeping info under wraps, but I've got the need to know stuff, so grab your proton pack and click on the jump already! case

The game's storyline takes place two years after the ghostbuster II movie, of course you play a new recruit who has been hired to test Ray Stanz and Egon Spenglers' new equipment. Paranormal activity has been on the rise as the city prepares to unveil a new Gozer exhibit. So the city calls upon the ghostbusters to rid them of their somethin strange in the neighborhood and you just so happen to be the newbie. You get to run into your favorite characters and villains from the movies, including Vigo, Slimer, the Library Ghost, and the Stay Puft Marshmallow man. The game is riddled with your standard hostage and escort levels, and many more minibosses along the way.

Unfortunately Ghostbusters was stuck in development limbo after July of last year when Activision Blizzard announced that Ghostbusters was not to be one of the five franchises that to be released, so the project was left without a publisher for several months. Finally in November of the same year Atari announced that it would be publishing the game. The PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 versions of the game are all being developed by Terminal Reality. Red Fly Studio has chosen to take the reins on the PS2 and Wii versions while Zen Studios has taken on the DS version. group ghostbusters

Considering the storyline has been written by the original writers from the film, I think there is a lot of potential lying in this game. Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson have all agreed to lend their voices to the game, which I think is essential to the game's success. I mean what kind of game would it be without hearing the witty banter between Peter and Raymond from the movie? Of course I'm anxious to see what this game has to offer, however I'm always hesitant about Movie-Based videogames. Hopefully they will be able incorporate a lot of elements from the movies into the games, but not so much that they become a movie with bits and pieces of gameplay in between. I grew up with the Ghostbuster movies, and they have always held a special place in my heart, hopefully this game won't go and taint that little spot, but I really don't think it will. Anyhoo, I'll leave you guys with this little gem of a song to bring back some memories
